Khalil, tell us more about what you do. According to your Instagram profile, you're a man of many trades: image consultant, personal shopper, stylist...
My Instagram account is a reflection of my lifestyle. In reality, I work as an image consultant for both celebrities and VIPS, anyone who needs advice and needs help while shipping.
How did you start out?
I always have loved fashion, since my childhood, and I always knew that I would somehow work in this domain. Fashion is a passion of mine. I'm very eccentric and have good taste and an eye for beautiful looking things. I come from a family of nine children, my sisters would always call me when they needed help with shopping. I got the opportunity to live in London, which why I decided to study at the London Fashion College and at Central Saint Martins. After that, it was due to my unique taste and talent that I had opportunities come my way. Maybe also because I'm a little bit crazy. I don't like normal, it's boring (laughs). This is a medium with which I can share my passion with others. I can also help people and consult them so that they can feel better about themselves and can learn to develop their skills.
Who are your competitors and what differentiates you from them?
I work exclusively, and when I devote myself to a client, I devote myself only to the and give all the necessary time needed to them. I always had an eye and a taste for beautiful things, and I know I have a unique taste!
What do you like best about your work?
I love everything about it. I don;t have a assistant because I insist on doing everything myself. Which should be an obvious sign that I love what I do. That does mean that it takes more time, but I would rather not sacrifice quality for quantity.
DO you have any horror stories from work?
I can't name names, but yes of course! I'll tell you a horror story that happened to me which is also fumy. I was in Paris in my hotel, and a celebrity that I work with called me from the Bristol Hotel, where she was staying at, in the middle of the night. She was in a manic state and said that her assistant had die and that she didn't know what to do. I went over, literally in my pyjamas. I found the assistant in a puddle of blood on the floor. Then suddenly, she rose from the dead. The celebrity I was working with had pranked me, because she was bored along with her assistant and they wanted to get me out of bed!
If you could give one piece of advice for our readers, as a stylist, what would it be?
I would say not to take risks with your outfit choices. No one is going to critic you for wearing a simple dress. Why try to impress with extravagant outfits that are in bad-taste?
What does the future hold for Khalil?
I'm currently thinking of collaborating with a big designer for a special collection. It's still in the making, we're working on the idea. And of course I want to be more crazy, more me, to become more successful. I want to also become more transparent, in a world where everyone is fake and a hypocrite!
