Venezuelan director Jonathan Jakubowicz takes us inside the Duran’s life, showing the audience the tough conditions in which he grew up in, and follows along as he makes his professional debut at the age of 16. In 1980, Duran defeated Sugar Ray Leonard (played by Usher), but shocked the world when he announced his retirement as he returned to his corner, saying ‘no mas’.
There are ups and downs to this movie, but you keep rooting for Duran the whole time, even though he makes some disappointing decisions that seem very silly.
“Hands of Stone” is a great biopic that’s filled with great boxing sequences. You don’t need to be a boxing, or sports, fan to enjoy the ride!
