The Lebanese Education Minister Elias Bou Saab met with the Clooneys during his visit to New York for the U.N. General Assembly where they discussed the initiative. According to the post shared by Bou Saab on Facebook, “Bou Saab accepted the invitation of Amal and George Clooney, who have launched a project to teach children in Lebanon through private schools that they will build in cooperation with SABIS – a global network of schools – and Lebanon’s Education Ministry”.
According to reports from Human Rights Watch, there are roughly 250,000 Syrian children in Lebanon that are out of school. The project, which is set to launch next year, aims to provide education for 15,000 Lebanese and refugee children.
This is not Amal’s first initiative that targets education in Lebanon, the British-Lebanese lawyer previously launched a scholarship for young Lebanese women to pursue their studies at the United World College in Dilijan, Armenia!
