Aaah, winter in Lebanon… To most of us, it is far from the cute, appealing photos of what we see on social media. It is more like cold, gloomy days, long nights and damp streets that are impractical. Yet, winter in Lebanon can really be fun, with a bit of planning and initiative!
TRY THE WINTER SPORTS
Despite what most people who don’t know Lebanon may think, our little stretch of a country has quite some decent resorts to enjoy the winter sports. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and even the sacrosanct “après-ski” pause for the most sociable ones, there is much to enjoy.
HOW ABOUT AN OFF-ROAD EXPERIENCE?
Imagine venturing out into the wilderness by car, witnessing some of the best panoramas ever… Enjoy the adrenalin rush, and the excitement of all your senses. A full-adventure ride into a spectacular destination will have you pack good memories forever. I have tried it, super thrilling !
CHEESE & WINE, FONDUE OR CHESTNUT… A COSY NIGHT IN
Don’t we all love the feeling a cosy day/night with yummy treats when the weather is bad ? So pick your favourite, choose your program on Netflix, gather your friends and family – or opt for the “tête-à-tête” with boo – and curl up on the couch with a few blankets. Memorable moments guaranteed!
Definitely one of my favs! Wait for the big storm to pass, before you opt for this one ! Once the roads are practicable, this is one of the funnest activities you can do in Lebanon. Drive off to some Lebanese village where you have never been. Discover new places, enjoy local treats, engage with new people. Another option is to go do some wine-tasting: Lebanon has plenty of wineries in various regions for you to visit and enjoy. Some of them even have restaurant where you’ll be able to have cool bites. In that case, remember: do not drink and drive !
STUCK AT HOME: PLAN SOME GOOD DEED
If the weather is really bad, make the best of you time at home: go through your belongings, and try to get rid of all the clothes you’re not wearing and donate them to associations, NGOs or to church. Many people are in need, now more than ever, and you’ll be doing someone a great favour !
What’s wrong with being a tourist in your own country ? Bad weather can contribute to your culture! So go on that cultural adventure, there are plenty of places to see: big galleries, small and unknown ones, showcasing talents well-worth discovering.
FEEL LIKE HAVING FUN ? GO CLUBBING
If there is one thing Lebanon is great at, it is nightlife… There are plenty of great indoor clubs to enjoy on weekends, and sometimes on weekdays as well. So pick your style, and hit the dance floor to sweat off the energy ! My personal favorites (for Techno & Electro): Uberhaüs and Ballroom Blitz.
MISS SUMMERTIME ? HIT THE INDOOR POOL/SPA
It sure is cold outside, and some of us may feel down with the winter gloom. So if you are one of those summer babes that miss the warmth and humidity, treat yourself with a day at a heated indoor pool. Most gyms and big hotels have one, just make your choice.
