WHAT’S A MUG CAKE?
Sometimes, one just does not feel like baking a whole cake. That’s where the individual serving made in a coffee mug comes in handy… So, basically, a mug cake is a cake in a mug! And it is microwavable, which is great, because it makes it even easier when the chocolate craving hits you. And here is my gift to you, a recipe to die for… Enjoy !
HOW TO MAKE THE CHOCOLATE LAVA MUG CAKE IN THE MICROWAVE
You will need:
- Your favorite mug, (microwavable, of course)
- 1/4 cup of flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp dark cocoa powder
- 1/2 tbsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 3 tbsp whole milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips OR 3-4 dark (or milk) chocolate squares
- 1 tbsp water
Start by putting dry ingredients in the cup (flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt), and combine them with a fork.
Add the melted butter, the milk, the egg and the vanilla, mix well with a fork, and make sure to mix in the flower at the bottom.
Place the chocolate chips or the chocolate squares at the center, on top of the batter, and push slightly in with your finger. Drizzle the water right on top.
Place in the microwave and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the cake rises to the top and the edges look set. The center should look slightly wet and shiny but not raw, and slightly sticky to the finger when touched. (In my microwave, for perfection to my taste, it took 1 min 25 seconds).
Tip: Start with 1 minute and check your mug cake before adding time.
You can go crazy and add caramel, nuts, peanut butter to the center!
Drop whipped cream or ice cream on top before tasting… Yummy !
