FACEBOOK & INSTAGRAM ADD NEW FEATURES TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSSINESSES

A few days ago, Facebook announced a few new features that will allow users to show their support for small businesses and get the latest updates as those businesses deal with the dramatic economic fallout of the pandemic. Among those features, the new sticker #SupportSmallBusiness

WHAT IS IT ?

This new sticker allows users to shout out businesses and places in their area and then creates a curated Instagram Story feed of everyone you are following who has used the feature. It aims to help businesses which are struggling during the current global situation.

WHAT’S THE POINT ?

If you use the sticker Support Small Business or hashtag #SupportSmallBusiness in any of your stories, your post will be added to a shared Instagram Story highlighting similar posts from all the account you follow. The idea is to support local small businesses and entrepreneurs that are struggling at the moment.

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

Whenever you are creating an Instagram story, there should now be an option to add the sticker, in the same place as where “location” and “mention” stickers are. The idea is for you to tag a local or small business to help promote them; or whenever you visit or use their services, other people can then see where you went. You create awareness about that business.

After you have selected the sticker on your story, you then have the option to search for the business and add the sticker to your post. The sticker gives a small preview of the business’s feed for your followers to see.

When people use the sticker, it creates a new story on your homepage, with a collection of all the local businesses people you have followed, used or shared.

Once your friends and family have started using the feature, your curated newsfeed story will then look like a collection of business being promoted/used by them.

Also, businesses can repost your mention to their stories, or message people who tagged them. They can use the sticker as well to shout out other entrepreneurs in their community.

According to Instagram, this feature can help businesses reach new customers and stay connected to the people.

So, next time you visit your local coffee shop for a takeaway, or if you have a friend with a small business, this feature is perfect for you to help them !
