The sad news went around the globe like wildfire, last night: Basketball sensation Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash, together with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and 7 other people. As the world mourns his death, many stories and tweets are making the headlines.
LEGENDS DON’T DIE !
My first reaction when I heard the news, was denial, because legends can’t die… Some figures seem immortal to us. Just the same way, we, as children, tend to think our parents will be around forever. Until reality hits. So the great Kobe died yesterday, when his helicopter ride crashed into the foggy hills of Calabasas, California.
WHO WAS KOBE, AFTER ALL ?
If for the masses, Kobe Bryant was a basketball sensation, for some, he was a lot more. He was hope. Bryant was a complex person: a ruthless competitor, sometimes a selfish teammate, yet charismatic and caring. And when the rape allegations surfaced, even though his career was tarnished, he remained, for many, a symbol of excellence. His legendary determination and hard work gave the underprivileged the sense that they, too, could get their own personal victories. He most certainly made NBA history, but he was making headlines before he got picked up by the NBA, while still in high school.
A TWEET PREDICTING HIS DEATH ?
Today, everyone wants a piece of Kobe Bryant. His jersey is one of the most top selling jerseys around the world. Bryant was a role model. He had come far, and done wonders for each team he played for. And almost everyone who has seen him play fell a little bit in love with him. So when a random fan’s mysterious Tweet surfaced yesterday, dating back from 2012, saying: “Kobe is going to end up dying in a helicopter crash”, fans reactions were harsh. Definitely not the right time for that kind of freaky prediction.
Today, we wanted to celebrate the life of Kobe Bryant, his remarkable talent and devotion to winning, and the life of his daughter Gianna, who was also a basketball player. Our condolences to his wife Vanessa and the Bryant family.
