Here is a hearty recipe that can serve as a main dish and come with a side green salad, for an easy, comfy dinner. Feel free to use whatever toppings you or your family enjoy.


  • 1 package or 10g active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1-1/4 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3-1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 250g ground beef
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 can of 400g tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp dry oregano
  • 1 tsp dry basil
  • 1 medium green pepper
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the water with the sugar. Let stand for 5 min. Add oil and salt. Stir in the flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Flour a surface and drop the dough on it; knead until smooth and elastic, for about 2-3 min. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to also grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 45 min. Meanwhile, cook the beef and onion over medium heat, until no longer pink. Drain.

Punch down the dough and divide in half (for 2 pizzas). Press each half into a greased pizza pan. Combine tomato sauce with oregano and basil, and spread over each crust. Top with beef mixture, green pepper and cheese.

Bake at 200°C for about 25-30 min, or until crust is golden.
