Japanese Princesses to Give Up Royal Title to Marry a Commoner

Many girls dream about the idea of marrying a prince and becoming a princess one day, but some real-life princesses would much rather give up their royal title in order to marry the one they love!

Such was the case with Princess Mako of Japan, who gave up her title last year in order to marry her fiancé, Kei Komuro, in 2020. It seems like she inspired those around her with the move, as her cousin, Princess Ayako, is following in her footsteps.

The 27-year-old Japanese royal announced that she is giving up her title in order to get engaged to her boyfriend, 32-year-old Kei Moriya this summer. The two plan to wed in October!

Although some royals, such as Prince William and Prince Harry, do not have to give up their royal titles when they marry commoners, other monarchies require that royal members renounce their claim to the throne and royal title in order to marry a commoner.

All in the name of love!
