LEBANESE STAYCATION : BE A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY

Summer is the season for rest, relaxation and fun. But let’s get real: after months of uprisings, a lockdown due to a global pandemic, a down-spiraling economy and a deflating currency… many of us are suddenly unemployed, and if not, on a tight budget. So the luxury vacation of our dreams is definitely not for this year. Luckily, you don’t always have to spend a lot to enjoy what the summer has to offer. A staycation can be just as – if not more – relaxing and fun !

VISIT YOUR LOCAL MUSEUMS

Khan el saboun, Saida

Besides the major ones, there are plenty of small museums in every area of the country, and they can be really fun ! Pretend you’re a tourist, and go visit them.

GO TO THE BEACH/POOL

Nowhere Beach in Heri

Lebanon is a coastal country and even those who do no live on the coast have easy access to it, or to some kind of water. Enjoy a refreshing day, but remember to stay safe while at the beach.

TAKE A LITTLE CRUISE

Byblos old harbor

There are plenty of possibilities of going on a cruise along the coast, so why not ? You’ll be able to escape urban life and disconnect for a few hours.

TAKE A HIKE

Walking is the best exercise, and an excellent stress reliever ! And Lebanon has so many routes and trails to explore, where nature is abundant and generous. You’ll be guaranteed to feel rejuvenated and relaxed. Just don’t forget to pick up your garbage after yourself !

GO CAMPING

There is nothing like campfires and roasted marshmallows under the stars to relax and make you put your life into perspective. Camping is a great, very affordable way to enjoy a staycation and create unforgettable memories. Remember to pick up garbage after yourself and to fully put out any campfire with water

TAKE AN EXERCISE CLASS

After months and months of lockdown and stress, why not pamper yourself with a little goodness. One of the greatest ways to unplug and unwind. Yoga, Pilates and other types of exercise classes are going to do wonders for your stress and hectic lifestyle.

HOST A BARBECUE

Many of us are still hesitant about going to public places. So a barbecue is a great alternative. Invites those who have been respecting social distancing, and ask everyone to observe a few safety rules. It will be a great break for everyone !

VISIT LOCAL MARKETS

Souk el Tayeb

If many have shifted to online shopping, there is an undeniable, old-fashioned pleasure in carrying a basket along a farmer’s market and devour with the eyes the fresh produce on display. Local honey, freshly baked goods, zaatar and other spices… you’ll be refreshed in no time.

ORGANIZE A FARM-DAY OUTING

Taanayel

There are a few places where you could take the whole family and make everyone happy! Foodies will sample farm-fresh goodies while the kids get to pet the sheep or feed the rabbit… Some places will even let you pick berries or vegetables. A great bonding experience.

TOUR LOCAL WINERIES

Sept Winery

Again, that is one thing that we have plenty of, in Lebanon, wineries ! It is a great way to support local business as well as educate yourself on how wine is made. Some local facilities give structured tours, and some even offer great lunch options.

A ROMANTIC STAY AT A B&B

Sometimes, a staycation calls for moving out of your usual places. Our country is filled with charming guest houses and B&Bs. Choose a region you’d like to visit, the odds are, there will be an absolute gem not far. It is amazing what a change of scene, a yummy breakfast and crisp sheet can do to relax you and help you bond as a couple.
