LOCKDOWN LOVE STORY – MAYBE… How I got picked up at the grocery store

The love game is rather dependent on people meeting in person… And one would think that the COVID-19 pandemic would drastically change this game and make it more difficult to meet someone. Well, think again ! The supermarket is your only highlight of the week ? Be assured that it very well might be the place where you’ll be asked out for you number.

Event Tinder is saying so, lately: the world’s most popular dating platform is now greeting users with “We hope to be a place for connection, during this challenging time, but now is not the time to meet in real life. Please keep things here for now.”

As human instincts go, right now, the desire to form connections with other people, particularly of a romantic nature, is stronger than ever. Global restrictions on movement and interaction are slowing the rate at which new relationships are formed ? Not necessarily. Because, remember, the art of the pick-up knows no bounds, and someone proved that to me just a few days ago… at the supermarket – my one highlight of the week, lately… Just like most of you, I am the guidelines on social distancing, but I sometimes have to go out for groceries, to make sure I won’t die from hunger – and loneliness (strolling the supermarket’s aisles has become a thrilling experience, in fact).

Well ladies and gentlemen, think about it this way and forgive the cliché, but the grocery store is often teeming with all sort of crowds, including available men/women. Heck, everybody needs to supply themselves with food, so you’ll actually find all kinds of people there. Picking up at the grocery store is a challenge – it’s not a venue typically conducive to romantic encounters… I must give him that, the pickup artist I am referring to was able to bend and flex in the face of adversity. And his ability somehow dictated success… I am writing about him now, aren’t I ?

So, gentlemen, if you’re willing to expand your repertoire and feel confident in an unlikely flirting situation, and if you don’t mind taking on new ideas, you may land a delectable hottie at the deli counter… as strange as that sounds.

Last word of advice: If you want to meet someone in a unique and fun way, then you have to be suave, but not obsequious. You have to be confident, but not cocky. You have to be funny, but not over the top. Most importantly, you have to learn how to read her signals, and then go for it. Who knows… maybe she WILL take the number. And to hell with Tinder!
