LOSING OUR HERITAGE TO NEGLIGENCE…

ANOTHER OLD BUILDING COLLAPSES IN ASHRAFIEH

The Mehrej building, an old and uninhabited three-story building of Selim Bustros street in the Tabaris area, collapsed at around 1:00 am on Tuesday. If the collapsed caused no casualties, it damaged parked cars, and debris blocked the street. The ground floor was home to a bakery known on social media, the Lebanese Bakery.

Reportedly, Prime Minister Hassan Diab asked security forces to carry out investigations on the reasons behind the collapse and also requested a report on the extent of the damages.
Culture and Agriculture Minister Abbas Mortada visited the site, and stated that “negligence of traditional buildings is unacceptable” and asked to refer the file to the judiciary. Now, the question is, will there really be accountability of some sort ?
