Lebanese director Nadine Labaki’s new drama, “Capernaum”, premiered at the 71st Cannes Film Festival this week and received a 15-minute standing ovation!
The Cannes jury is yet to announce the winners of the year, but it seems that “Capernaum” may receive a Palme d’Or…
Labaki’s film is a “politically-charged fable”, which follows a child who sues his own family. The film is one of only three films with a female director to compete for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
If Nadine Labaki takes home the prize, she would be the second woman to win the prize, following Jane Campion’s win for “The Piano” in 1993!
